Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the purposes for which it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Madison County Criminal History, you accept these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We may retain an email you send long enough to respond and maintain the exchange. It stays within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the servers automatically receive basic technical information about the visit:

  • Page-view timestamps and time spent on pages
  • The referring site, when one is reported
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • The device's assigned IP address
  • Pages viewed during the visit

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files that help measure traffic, popular pages, and points where visitors leave. Analytics vendors aggregate that usage information for us. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a submitted query to the selected search partner
  • Maintain availability and page performance
  • Diagnose and repair technical faults
  • Measure which resources visitors use
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Madison County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records held by the Madison County Sheriff, Circuit Clerk, MSHP CJIS repository, and Missouri Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into a consumer report or a record about another person.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by the provider's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices, which we do not control. Review those terms before running a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to sheriff pages, Missouri court and agency portals, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not operate that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
  • Search providers processing a query you submit
  • Advertising networks serving site ads
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use customary security measures to protect collected data. No internet-connected service is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will remove it.

Your Data Rights

Missouri's Sunshine Law, chapter 610, governs public-government records, while section 43.509 addresses criminal-history dissemination. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government custodian. For data held by us, you may:

  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Ask what personal data we hold about you
  • Seek deletion of data we retain
  • Opt out of processing where that choice applies

Updates to This Policy

We may revise this policy. A new version becomes available here with an updated effective date, so visitors should review it from time to time.

Effective date: July 30, 2026
